Comment on "Build and Fight: Beyond Trump and the Limitations of the United Front" by Kali Akuno and Doug Norberg:
by Steve Bloom: Thanks Kali and Doug for this useful commentary. There are details that I
would like to discuss with you. I don’t believe, for example, that the USA is on
the verge of a fascist regime as a result of Trump taking office. And I would
make the case that united fronts can be effective tools to actively advance the
fight against oppression, not only in defensive struggles. But these are
details, as noted. The overall thrust of what you propose is exactly right:
working to develop a revolutionary left in the USA which consciously begins to
envision a strategy for eco-socialist transformation in the 21st century—a
process which goes well “beyond the limitations of the united front.” The
issues, obstacles, etc. that you list are pretty much on target it seems to me.
“A revolutionary force is needed, one that is not yet born.”
If you have any thoughts about how to bring people together in order to
begin working on such a project I would be interesting in hearing your
proposals.
